Fuencaliente is a municipality located in the south of La Palma and its name comes from a source of medicinal-thermal waters in the area. The territory of Fuencaliente has been devastated several times by volcanic eruptions, in fact, the last one occurred in Spain, was the Teneguía volcano in 1971.

Many areas in Fuencaliente have been protected, like the Natural Park of Cumbre Vieja, the Natural Volcanoes Reserve of Fuencaliente, the Protected Landscape of Tamanca and the site of scientific interest of the Salinas de Fuencaliente (salt evaporation ponds). This tour starts at the Tourist Information Office of Fuencaliente. Once there you will begin to feel the ‘strength’ of the volcanoes. Discover the National Park of the Caldera de Taburiente on foot. A protected area of volcanic nature but distinguished by the large amount of water resources it has, both underground and surface. La Palma, Canary Islands

La Palma is the ideal island for hiking. This route of 16 km, 100m of ascent and 850m of descent is of high level.

An adventurous hike through the National Park! Inside the about 9 km wide gigantic crater we walk downhill, starting at 1,000 m above sea level through forests of pinetrees, endemic in the Canary Islands Archipelago. We reach the Taburiente River - the only stream of the Canary Islands which has water all year round.

Hiking through the land Acero with the holy rock of the aboriginal people called Idafe, we reach the Barranco de Los Angustias ravine which surprises us with its geological curiosities created by submarine volcanic eruptions.

The bed of the Barranco de las Angustias marks the border of the locality of Tijarafe with the localities of Tazacorte and Los Llanos de Aridane. It was declared as Natural Park of the Barranco de Las Angustias in 1987 and reclassified as a Protected Landscape in 1994. The Barranco de Las Angustias is characterized by its rocky and steep walls and rocky vegetation. In the highest area there are also cedars and pines. There is even a possibility to bathe.

This route begins at 09:30 hours and lasts 6 hours (including stops). The meeting point is Los Llanos de Aridane · Bus station. The route offers a pick-up service from Los Cancajos (at the bus stop in front of the H10 Taburiente hotel) at 8:30 hours, from Puerto Naos (Hotel Sol) at 8:30 hours or from the Princess Hotel at 8:15 hours.
